CHICAGO — A woman was walking home from a Boystown convenience store when a Back of the Yards man raped her in a nearby garage Monday afternoon, prosecutors said.

The 22-year-old woman was walking through an alley in the 3500 block of North Halsted Street about 4:15 p.m. Monday, police said. A man followed her into the alley, where he sexually assaulted and robbed her at knifepoint.

Marcus Lynch, 20, was identified using surveillance camera footage from the store that showed both him and the victim prior to the attack, prosecutors said.

As the woman was walking out of the store, Lynch grabbed her by the neck and took her to a garage where he threatened her with a knife and demanded her purse, prosecutors said. He told her not to look at him before he raped her, prosecutors said.

When police found Lynch, he was identified by the woman and later admitted to the attack, prosecutors said.

Lynch, of the 4700 block of South Loomis Boulevard, had been charged with one count of aggravated criminal sexual assault with a weapon and one count of armed robbery with a dangerous weapon.

He was ordered held without bail Wednesday.
