CHICAGO — Police are conducting a death investigation after a body was found in the Chicago River Friday morning.

An anonymous caller notified the Fire Department of the body, found in the 700 block of South Wells Street about 11:30 a.m., police said. The Police Department's Marine Unit then located the body.

The body was identified as that of a man, the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office said, but his age and race have yet to be determined.

Officials said it appeared the man's body had been in the water for an extended period of time.

Area Central detectives are leading the death investigation.
