CHICAGO — A 17-year-old boy has been charged in the November shooting that killed Javier Gonzalez, a Little Village teenager.

Police said the 17-year-old suspect — whose name and photo are being held because he's a minor — was charged with first-degree murder and appeared in bond court Monday.

Shortly before 8 p.m. on Nov. 14, a teenage boy walked up to Javier, also 17, in the 3000 block of South Karlov Avenue, police said. The boy pulled a gun and shot Javier in the back of his head and right shoulder.

Javier, who lived nearby in the 3100 block of South Komensky Avenue, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:30 p.m. the next day.

His sisterMaricela Gonzalez, 26, flew in from Ohio and was able to spend a half hour with Javier before he died.

She said the 17-year-old spent a lot of time at home, "always in and out," and that he was excited to start working again before his death.

"He was in a gang — I can't say he wasn't, 'cause he was," Gonzalez said. "There's nothing special about [Javier's death]. It's the same thing every day here."
