SOUTH LOOP — A police officer accidentally fired his gun and hit a water pipe inside a police station in the South Loop Monday night, authorities said.

The gun went off accidentally about 9:40 p.m., striking a pipe and causing water damage to an office inside the station, said Officer Hector Alfaro, a police spokesman.

There were no injuries reported in the shooting, Alfaro said.

The incident caused police to transfer 15 prisoners from the station's lock-up to another police station at 51st Street and Wentworth Avenue, according to The Tribune.

Police could not immediately confirm those details, Alfaro said.
