Red Line Service Resumes After Man on Tracks

CHICAGO — The Red Line has resumed service after a portion of its southern branch was shut down earlier Thursday after a man was threatening suicide near the 79th Street stop.

Around 3:50 p.m., police responded to a man making suicidal statements near the 79th Street stop of the Red Line. Officers worked to calm the man down, said Janel Sedevic, a police spokeswoman, and he was taken to Stroger Hospital for medical attention..

Around 4 p.m., the CTA removed power on the Red Line from 95th Street to 63rd Street due to the police investigation and is offering a bus shuttle as an alternate route, said Catherine Hosinski.
