CHICAGO LAWN — A 19-year-old man was killed and at least five others have been wounded by gunfire since Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.

Joseph Brittman died Wednesday evening after he was shot blocks from his home in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood.

The 19-year-old was in the 6400 block of South Campbell Avenue about 3 p.m. Wednesday when he was shot in his back, said Officer Hector Alfaro, a police spokesman.

Brittman, of the 6600 block of South Bell Avenue, was rushed in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where he was pronounced dead at 5:24 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Police did not immediately have details on circumstances surrounding the shooting.

Five others were wounded in shootings across the South and West sides, police said.

About 8:10 p.m., an 18-year-old man was shot during an apparent robbery, police said.

The teen was in the 3800 block of West Chicago Avenue in Humboldt Park when he was shot in his leg. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where his condition stabilized.

No one was in custody in connection with the shooting as of early Thursday, Alfaro said.

In South Shore, a 56-year-old man was left in critical condition after he was shot in his head.

About 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, the man was shot in the 1700 block of East 72nd Street. The man was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition, Alfaro said.

Police said the shooting may have been related to a domestic incident but were still investigating as of Thursday morning.

Another man is in critical condition after he was shot Wednesday afternoon in South Shore.

The 45-year-old man was working for Comcast as a technician when he was shot in the stomach during a robbery in an alley in the 7600 block of South Kingston Avenue.

The man was also taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

About 3:37 p.m. Wednesday, two people were shot in the 6700 block of South Langley Avenue in Greater Grand Crossing, police said.

A 29-year-old man was shot in his back and was sent to Stroger Hospital, and an 18-year-old woman was shot in her arm and was taken to St. Bernard Hospital, police said.
