CHICAGO — A man attempted to kidnap a teen girl as she was walking to a Little Village store Tuesday evening, authorities said.

The 14-year-old was on her way to a store in the 3500 block of West Cermak Road about 5:30 p.m. when a man walked up to her and tried to talk to her, police said in a community alert.

She tried to walk away, but the man grabbed her from behind in an attempt to take her somewhere, according to the alert.

The girl told authorities the man told her to come with him, but she was able to escape and run inside the store, according to the alert.

The suspect then fled south on Drake Street from Cermak Road, cops said.

The man was described by police as Hispanic, 17 to 21 years old, 5-foot-3 to 5-foot-5 and weighing 125 to 135 pounds. His face was described as "narrow" with a "pointed chin and nose," according to the alert.

Police asked anyone with information about the incident to call detectives at 312-747-8380.
