WRIGLEYVILLE — The holidays are hitting Wrigleyville next week.

The Cubs will host their third annual tree lighting ceremony in front of the Wrigley Field marquee on Thursday, Dec. 5 at 5:30 p.m., with Hall of Famer Fergie Jenkins doing the honor of lighting the tree.

Jenkins played for the Cubs from 1966 to 1973 and is the first National Baseball Hall of Fame inductee from Canada. He was known for his control and "as a diligent workhorse."

The tree, a 24-foot Colorado Spruce, will be a temporary home for the Cubs' holiday toy drive. Residents can bring in unwrapped toys to place under the tree starting at 7 a.m. on that Thursday.

The Cubs will ultimately donate the toys to various organizations that support children and families in need.
