LITTLE VILLAGE — A 50-year-old man who died Saturday is the first person this winter season whose death was caused by the cold, officials determined.

Daniel Badillo, whose home address was unknown, was found Saturday in the 3100 block of West 26th Street in the city's Little Village neighborhood. Badillo was taken to St. Anthony Hospital where he was pronounced dead about 8 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Officials there ruled his death was caused by exposure to the cold, hypothermia and "acute and chronic alcoholism."

Temperatures on Saturday reached a low of 15 degrees in Chicago, according to the National Weather Service.
