BACK OF THE YARDS — A 21-year-old man died Monday night after he was shot early Sunday morning in the Back of the Yards neighborhood.

Brandon Torres, of the 4400 block of South Halsted Street, was pronounced dead about 10:15 p.m. Monday at Stroger Hospital, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

Torres was rushed to Stroger Hospital in critical condition after he was shot about 2:10 a.m. Sunday, police said.

Torres was sitting in the rear passenger seat of a vehicle in the 1600 block of West 44th Street Sunday when a gunman approached and opened fire into the vehicle, hitting Torres in his head, said Officer Amina Greer, a police spokeswoman.

Police could not immediately provide details about what may have lead to the shooting or say if anyone else was in the car with Torres when he was shot.

No one was in custody in connection with the shooting early Tuesday.
