CHICAGO — Chicago police have opened an investigation into human remains found in the woods of west suburban River Forest.

An autopsy released Friday afternoon determined the woman's cause of death to be several "combined" stab and cut wounds. The death was ruled a homicide.

The remains were found in a plastic container Thursday in the 8100 block of Chicago Avenue in Thatcher Woods, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

The age or name of the woman wasn't immediately available.

The original crime may have occurred in Chicago, which is why its detectives were called into the case, cops said.
