CHICAGO — A 25-year-old man is in critical condition after he was shot in his head in Avalon Park late Sunday night.

The victim was sitting in a car in the 8000 block of South Woodlawn Avenue when two men approached about 11:05 p.m., said Officer Hector Alfaro, a police spokesman.

One of the men pulled a gun and shot the man in his head before running away. The 25-year-old man was listed in critical condition at Stroger Hospital Monday morning.

No further details were immediately available.

• Earlier Sunday, a 27-year-old man was shot in Archer Heights. On Saturday night, another man was wounded in a Humboldt Park shooting.

• From Friday night through Saturday morning, three people were shot — including 19-year-old Miguel Delgado, who was killed in Wicker Park.

In all, there were 14 shootings between 6 p.m. Friday and midnight Sunday, according to Lt. Steven Sesso, a police spokesman.

During the same weekend last year, Sesso said, there were 26 shootings, including five murders.

"While there has been less crime, fewer shootings and fewer murders this year, one victim is one too many and certainly more work remains," Sesso said in a statement.

Cops said they recovered 115 illegal guns in the past week.
