LAKEVIEW — Earlier this week, Lakeview residents attended a community policing meeting in hopes of persuading the city to assign more police to their neighborhood.

Now, Ald. Tom Tunney (44th) is alerting residents to the string of recent robberies that spurred the request.

Tunney, in an email newsletter sent to constituents, highlighted the incidents that have occured in the 1500 block of West Altgeld, the 1500 block of West George, the 1300 block of West Grace, the 1200 block of West Belmont, the 4700 block of North Hermitage and the 1400 block of West Roscoe.

The two offenders are described as either black or Latino males, ages 18 to 35. One offender may have a shaved or bald head.

They have approached victims on the street, or in alleys, and taken wallets, money, and cellphones at gunpoint.

The cars used by the offenders are described as a red two-door Toyota, a beige sedan and a black Chevrolet.

All of the incidents occurred between 11 p.m and 5 a.m in June.

Anyone with information about the robberies is asked to call the police at 312-744-8263.
