CHICAGO — DNAinfo.com Chicago reporters Tanveer Ali and Quinn Ford spend many of their working days knocking on doors of families and friends of people who have been murdered.

It's not an easy job, to say the least. But their work helped create DNAinfo.com Chicago's murder timeline project, which shows the human toll of the city's homicide problem. Reporters visited the homes of every murder victim so far in 2013, and are continuing to do so.

Watch as Ali and Ford explain the most difficult parts of the job and why it can also be incredibly moving.
