Chicago Fireworks 2013: Official (And Not-So-Official) July 4 Celebrations

 There are several ways to see fireworks this Fourth of July.

CHICAGO — Looking for a good place to watch the fireworks this Independence Day? You could head to Navy Pier, or cozy up on your porch and watch the action close to home.

We rounded up some of the biggest official (and not-so-official) fireworks displays happening around town. Please use caution when attending any unofficial fireworks display in a neighborhood park.

JULY 4

Fireworks Paddle
When: 7:15 p.m. departure
Where: 1220 W. LeMoyne Ave.; Montrose Beach, 440 N. Lake Shore Drive; North Avenue Beach, 1600 N. Lake Shore Drive
Arrive 15 minutes before departure. Sign up online.

Chicago Fireworks Dinner Cruise
When: 7:30 p.m. departure
Where: Navy Pier, 600 E. Grand Ave.
This event is sold out.

Wendella Fireworks Cruise
When: 7:30 p.m. departure
Where: One tour departs from the Wendella Dock at Trump Tower and another tour departs from the Wendella Dock on Goose Island.
Buy tickets online.

Mercury Cruises 3D Fireworks Cruise
When: 8 p.m. departure
Where: Southeast corner of Michigan Avenue bridge at Wacker Drive on Chicago's Riverwalk.
Buy tickets at ticket window or online.

Shoreline Sightseeing Architecture/Fireworks Tour
When: 8:30 p.m. departure
Where: Tours depart from Gateway Park in Navy Pier.
Buy tickets online.

Lakefront Fireworks Cruise
When: 9 p.m. departure
Where: Navy Pier, 600 E. Grand Ave.
Reserve a spot on the waitlist online or by calling 888-636-7737.

Saddle and Cycle Club Fireworks
When: 9:10 p.m.
Where: 900 W. Foster ave.
Access to the private grounds is restricted, but the display will be visible from surrounding parks, like Osterman Beach and Margate Park.

Navy Pier Fireworks Display
When: 9:30 p.m.
Where: Navy Pier, 600 E. Grand Ave.

Humboldt Park Unofficial Display: Every year, Humboldt Park is filled with Independence Day revelers having barbecues and putting on quite the amateur fireworks display. To stay out of harm's way, it might be best to watch from your porch or rooftop deck.

Where: Humboldt Park, 1400 N. Sacramento Ave.

Winnemac unofficial display: You didn't hear it from us, but folks have been known to put on quite the do-it-yourself fireworks display in Winnemac Park every year.

When: Head over before sunset. Reportedly ends by midnight
Where: Winnemac Park, 5101 N. Leavitt St.

Sheridan Park unofficial display
Where: 910 S. Aberdeen St.

Rogers Park lakefront unofficial display
Where: Between Albion and Farwell avenues

Welles Park unofficial display
Where: 2333 W. Sunnyside Ave.

Legion Park unofficial display
Where: 3100 W. Bryn Mawr Ave.

Horner Park unofficial display: Horner Park's displays kick off after sunset, where the action is strictly BYOB — bring your own bottle rocket.
Where: 2741 W. Montrose Ave.

 

JULY 6

Navy Pier Fireworks Display
When: 10:15 p.m.
Where: Navy Pier, 600 E. Grand Ave.
