CHICAGO — Police are investigating the deaths of two people found dead in a downtown hotel in a suspected double suicide.

The bodies of a 56-year-old man and a 46-year-old woman were found in a hotel in the 300 block of East North Water Street, said Officer Veejay Zala. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed the incident took place at the Sheraton Hotel, 301 E. North Water St. A manager of the Sheraton Hotel said she had no information about the incident.

Zala said the pair died of apparent self-inflicted gunshot wounds to the head. Handguns were found next to the bodies. They were pronounced dead on the scene, he said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office could not confirm the identities of the pair Friday evening.

A death investigation is ongoing.
