SOUTH SHORE — A man has been taken into custody without incident early Monday morning after a four-hour standoff with police.

Police were called about 1:41 a.m. to a home near the intersection of East 72nd Street and South Coles Avenue after a man barricaded himself in the home and threatened to commit suicide, according to Officer Ron Gaines, a police spokesman.

Onlookers watched as SWAT team officers worked the scene Monday morning. Two people were in the residence with the man, according to Officer Jose Estrada, a police spokesman.

The standoff ended when the man was taken into custody shortly after 6 a.m., Estrada said. No injuries were reported.

Officers did arrest one man who was intoxicated at the scene. Two officers injured their shoulders during the arrest and were taken to area hospitals, Estrada said.
