HYDE PARK — Health inspectors found no problems at two University of Chicago facilities Tuesday after they discovered mice droppings during routine inspections last week.
The Cathey Dining Commons, an undergraduate dining hall at the South Campus Residence Hall, and the Laboratory School both passed mandatory follow-up inspections Tuesday by the city’s Department of Public Health.
Inspectors cited the dining hall on April 23 for food stored at an unsafe temperature, an issue that was corrected immediately, and mice droppings under the dessert station and in kitchen prep areas.
The incident was the third time in the last six months the 6052 S. Ellis Ave. dining hall was cited for health code violations.
All issues were corrected when inspectors returned on Tuesday.
The Laboratory School also corrected issues with mouse droppings in two kindergarten rooms and in hallways, closets and general storage cubbies, according to the inspector’s report.
The university said it would hire an outside consultant to audit its cleaning regime and would add new safeguards to its contract with Aramark, which provides food and cleaning services at campus dining halls.
