CHICAGO CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A retired teacher robbed by two men, including one he befriended at the Horseshoe Casino, later identified his alleged attackers when he recognized them at other area casinos, prosecutors said.

The 72-year-old man allegedly met Micquel Jackson at the Horseshoe Casino in Hammond and offered to help him get a job, Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Lorraine Scaduto said.

Jackson, 22, later called the man about the job, asking if the two could talk about the prospect in person.

The elderly man agreed to pick Jackson up from his home in Altgeld Gardens, Scaduto said. He arrived on Jan. 9 in the afternoon, and Jackson allegedly asked if they could stop by a friend's house.

When Jackson and the man arrived, Carlos King, 24, allegedly got in and put a gun to the victim's head, Scaduto said. Jackson and King allegedly robbed the older man and and ordered him to drive.

After taking the elderly man's wallet and cellphone, they demanded that he get into the trunk of the car, Scaduto said.

But the man escaped.

Scaduto said the victim later spotted Jackson at another casino, the Ameristar Casino in East Chicago, and Jackson was arrested there on Jan. 24.

He identified King from a photo array displayed at another casino, she said. King was arrested Wednesday.

Both men have been charged with armed robbery, vehicular hijacking with a firearm and aggravated unlawful restraint.

Jackson, of the 300 block of East 134th Street, was charged with armed robbery, aggravated vehicular hijacking and aggravated kidnapping of a 72-year-old man Tuesday.

A Cook County judge ordered Jackson held on $350,000 bond.

Bail for King, of the 13000 block of South Ellis Avenue, was set at the same amount when he appeared in court Thursday.

Officials from Ameristar and Horseshoe casinos declined to comment.
