HYDE PARK — Add whiskey and barbecue to the offerings at the redevelopment of Harper Court.

Porkchop, which has an existing location in the West Loop, signed a lease on March 22 for a 2,500-square-foot space, the developers announced this week.

Jovanis Bouargoub will bring the Southern-inspired menu from his 941 W. Randolph St. location back to his home neighborhood of Hyde Park. The restaurant is expected to open after the project is completed this summer and will serve breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week.

Porkchop joins Park Tavern from the Near West Side and Ja’ Grill from Lincoln Park in the University of Chicago-backed project by Vermilion Development.

Nearly half of the ground-floor space in the development is now leased. L.A. Fitness was one of the first to join the development, leasing 31,500 square feet on the third floor.

Much of the development is being built on land owned by the university, which will lease nine floors of office space in the development.

“Porkchop is a welcome addition to the robust lineup of restaurants that have signed to Harper Court,” Ald. Will Burns (4th) said in a prepared statement. “Their commitment is a validation of all the hard work done by community stakeholders, residents and other partners to make Hyde Park a sustainable community for years to come.”

The project also includes a Hyatt Place hotel.
