UPTOWN — The Uptown rocker who spent the last months of his battle with Melanoma helping organize a benefit to fight cancer, Dan Stock, died on Monday, according to loved ones.
Stock was 37, and is survived by his wife Angie Stock and four-year-old daughter, Charlie.
Terminal cancer did not stop Stock from organizing a benefit concert, "Danstock," during his final days as a way to “give a little bit back while I’m still alive,” as he told DNAinfo.com Chicago in January. The Omaha native and Columbia College graduate was a music producer at Uptown Recording studio, as well as a guitarist and vocalist for Chicago hard rock band Bruiser.
He moved to Uptown in 2001 and never left, finding both a job at the studio and a community of loving friends who saw him as family. His loved ones did not know how long they had with Stock. But they were hoping he at least made it to the Danstock benefit concert on Feb. 7, which he did.
Asked in January how he found the strength to pursue projects — especially something like Danstock, which would not benefit him directly — Stock gave a simple answer.
"You just kind of believe what you’re going to believe," he told DNAinfo.Com Chicago, "and go from there."
Angie Stock said there is an education fund set up for their daughter Charlie, and that checks in Charlie's name can be mailed to TargetCom, 444 N. Michigan Ave., suite 3300. Contributions in Dan Stock's memory are also suggested to Rainbow Hospice, 1550 Bishop Ct., in Mount Prospect, according to his wife.
