CHICAGO — Two police officers were injured early Thursday when their SUV crashed while chasing suspects.

The officers saw a weapon being thrown from a vehicle just before 2 a.m. near 87th and Throop streets in Auburn Gresham, police said.

While chasing the vehicle, the officers' SUV crashed near 73rd and Morgan streets, authorities said.

The suspects, who also crashed at the scene, were taken into custody. The weapon was recovered, police said.

The two officers were taken to a hospital for observation, police said.
