ROSCOE VILLAGE — The Audubon Elementary community is pitching in to help a Bronzeville teacher establish a classroom library.

What's the connection?

Jennifer Larry, a former Audubon staff member, moved on to a position at Woodson Elementary on the South Side, where she and her students have fewer resources at their disposal. More than 90 percent of Woodson's enrollment is low income, compared with less than 30 percent at Audubon.

Though she may have left, Larry clearly is not forgotten by her Audubon co-workers, who organized a book drive on her behalf.

Parents and interested members of the community are asked to donate used or gently-used books appropriate for young readers in grades one through four.

Books are being collected in a drop box located outside Audubon's school office, 3500 N. Hoyne Ave. The book drive runs through March 22.
