COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A man raped his ex-girlfriend, stole money from her and refused to let her leave an Edgewater apartment for nearly a day afterward, prosecutors alleged in court Sunday.

Laroy Jackson, 33, of the 1200 block of West Leland Avenue, was charged with robbery, unlawful restraint, aggravated criminal sexual assault and domestic battery for an incident prosecutors said happened earlier this month.

Jackson's 32-year-old ex-girlfriend met with Jackson in an apartment in the 5800 block of North Sheridan Road to pick up some of her belongings on Feb 2., according to prosecutors and court records.

But the meeting turned violent when Jackson allegedly began beating her up, prosecutors said. The beating left her swollen-eyed and bruised, according to court documents.

Afterward, Jackson apologized to the victim asked her for sex, prosecutors said.

When she said no, Jackson raped her, prosecutors said. Jackson also took $400, according to arrest documents.

After the assault, Jackson kept the victim in the apartment against her will until the next day, prosecutors said. She managed to leave and was treated at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston, prosecutors said.

Jackson was arrested at the North Sheridan Road apartment Friday night, according to arrest documents.

Cook County Judge Israel Desierto set bail for Jackson at $350,000.
