Baconfest 2013 Tickets on Sale at Noon Wednesday
NEAR WEST SIDE — Get your inner piggy revved up for Baconfest 2013.
Held at the UIC Forum, Baconfest will feature food from 125 restaurants, including Bang Bang Pie Shop, Café Spiaggia, Glazed and Infused, Nana, and more.
The tickets, on sale Wednesday for $100 a pop, include samplings of lots of bacon goodies, sneak previews of bacon products and seven drink tickets good toward bacon-flavored alcoholic beverages.
And those beverages aren’t messing around.
“It tastes like a chocolate-covered banana when all’s said and done,” co-owner Tim Casey said.
Casey said Drum and Monkey is still brainstorming for this year’s bacon-themed cocktails, but last year their booth was swamped with orders.
Dave Andrews of The Fifty/50 said he knows exactly what cocktail his bar will serve up.
The “Wobble Stopper,” Baconfest’s official Bloody Mary two years running.
“I personally don’t even like Bloody Marys and I drink that one all the time. It has to be the bacon,” Andrews said.
The Wobble Stopper consists of house-made bloody mix and Reyka Small Batch Vodka with a dehydrated corn rim and big slice of house smoked bacon.
Andrews estimates the bar churned out over 3,000 Bloody Marys last year.
“It’s one of the events we really look forward to,” he said. “It’s really great to see everybody really happy about having a piece of bacon in their Bloody Mary.”
General admission tickets go on sale at noon Wednesday. VIP tickets, which cost $200 and include early access to the fest, are also available. Both are on sale at Baconfest Chicago’s website.
A portion of ticket sales goes to support the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
