CHICAGO — A Belmont Cragin man was killed and three injured early Saturday when a vehicle struck them, according to authorities.

Mario Ortega, 38, of the 4700 block of West Palmer Street, was crossing the street on the 3100 block of North Central Avenue with three females at about 12:40 a.m. Saturday when they were struck by a 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser, authorities said.

Ortega was taken to Our Lady of the Resurrection Hospital and pronounced dead there at 1:10 a.m., according the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

A 38-year-old female was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Hospital with a fractured ankle, a 32-year-old female was taken to Loyola University Hospital in serious to critical condition with hip and arm fractures, as well as head injuries, police said.

A 25-year-old female suffered head trauma and was transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital, according to police.

The driver was taken into custody in the vicinity of the crash and charges are pending, according to police.
