CHICAGO — A shooting at the Palmer House Hilton Hotel in the heart of Chicago's Loop has led to charges against an Evanston man.
Brian M. Miller was charged overnight with shooting a 25-year-old man in the leg during a late-night party on the hotel's 22nd floor in January, police said.
Miller, of the 1700 block of Madison Street in Evanston, was charged with aggravated battery with a firearm, police said. He is due in bond court Friday.
The shooting occurred about 2:15 a.m. on Jan. 20, police said. The victim was was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition, police said.
A Palmer House has stood at State and Monroe streets since 1870, when businessman Potter Palmer built the luxury hotel as a wedding present for his wife, Bertha. It burned down in the Chicago Fire. It was replaced — and then replaced again. The existing building was built in 1925 and is a Chicago landmark.
