PILSEN — Nothing says, “I love you” like a homemade valentine ... and a condom.
And there will be plenty of both Wednesday evening at the Free Condom Valentine’s Day party hosted by Yollocalli Arts Reach, a youth arts program in Pilsen.
Attendees will be able to make valentines, get free condoms and potentially meet a V-day sweetheart.
National Condom Week kicks off Thursday, which is part of the reason the Yollocalli Youth Council picked Wednesday for the party, Executive Director Vanessa Sanchez said.
Sanchez said Yollocalli has been passing out free condoms to youths, but the party is a way of raising awareness of safe sex practices.
Buying condoms can be expensive, and Sanchez said young people should not be ashamed to come grab a handful at the party.
“Yollocalli is a place where they can come and get this free protection for their health and their partners,” she said.
The party is from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Yollocalli Arts Reach, 1401 W. 18th St.
