Three Killed in West Side Car Crash

CHICAGO — Three people died Tuesday night after the SUV they were riding in crashed and flipped over on the West Side, authorities said.

The SUV was traveling eastbound in the 2400 block of West 31st Street about 8:30 p.m. when it hit the curb, struck a light pole and flipped onto its roof, police said.

The victims were identified as Phillip Barnes, 46, of Romeoville, Yvonne Tobias, 57, of the 400 block of South Homan Avenue in East Garfield Park, and Leantwana Roseburr, 40, of the 4900 block of South Gladys Avenue in Austin, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Fire department officials cut the victims out of the SUV, and the three were transported to Mt. Sinai hospital, police said.

Tobias was pronounced dead at the hospital at 9:09 p.m., Roseburr was pronounced dead at 9:19 p.m., and Barnes was pronounced dead at 9:20 p.m. according to the medical examiner.

It is unclear what lead to the the fatal crash, police said. The department's major accidents unit is investigating.
