CHICAGO — One person is dead following a two-vehicle crash on the Dan Ryan Expressway that sent two others area hospitals in critical condition, officials said.

The person who died was in a car parked on the right shoulder of the expressway just south of the northbound 95th Street onramp about 2:15 p.m. Sunday, said Illinois State Police District Chicago Master Sgt. Robert Satkiewicz.

The crash left a sedan smashed and an SUV on its side on the right shoulder of the expressway, just south of the 95th Street onramp. Satkiewicz couldn't say which of the cars were parked at the time of the crash.

The driver of the other car was a man in his 70s, Satkiewicz said. Alcohol likely wasn't involved in the crash.

Two victims were sent to John H. Stroger Hospital, while the other was sent to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, fire officials said. All were hospitalized in critical condition.
