Baconfest Chicago 2013 Restaurants Announced

By Chloe Riley | January 17, 2013 1:02pm

NEAR WEST SIDE — The roster is up for the fifth annual 2013 Baconfest Chicago festival.

The event, held on April 20 at the UIC Forum at 725 W. Roosevelt, gives guests access to a “bacon-wonderland” featuring bacon cuisine, bacon-inspired cocktails and wine and “bacontrepreneurs” selling bacon products.

The restaurants — 125 total — include Bang Bang Pie Shop, Lillie’s Q, N9NE Steak House, Spacca Napoli and Three Aces, among others.

At last year’s Baconfest, Three Aces, 1321 W. Taylor St., won a Golden Rasher award for its “shake n’ bake,” a bacon bolognese paired with a vanilla-bacon bourbon milkshake.

Three Aces is still making plans for April’s event, according to co-owner Anthony Potenzo, but he said Chef Matt Troost will be “coming out guns blazing” with a bacon-infused dish for the festival.

The bar hosted one of Baconfest’s four satellite dinners Monday and featured the bacon milkshake. Potenzo said the event completely sold out.

“Everybody loved everything,” he said.

VIP tickets are already on sale for $200 on Baconfest Chicago’s website and $100 general admission tickets go on sale Feb. 20. A portion of ticket sales goes to the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
