PILSEN — Add another craft beer to Chicago's lineup of choices.

Deschutes Brewery, an award-winning beermaker from Oregon, is rolling out its beers at Chicago bars with a series of events to promote them this week.

Monday's event is at Skylark Bar, at 2149 S. Halsted. Tastings of Mirror Pond Pale Ale from  Deschutes Brewery will be offered from 6-8 p.m. Monday.

The beer is a one-hop pale ale with citrus and floral flavors, according to Deschutes.

Wirtz Beverage, which recently opened a 600,000-square-foot warehouse and distribution facility just outside Chicago, is in charge of Deschutes distribution in Illinois.

Skylark bar co-owner Bob McHale said he first discovered the beer in San Francisco, but recently had the opportunity to try it again and liked what he tasted.

“I was like, ‘OK, this still really holds up,’ ” he said.

McHale described the beer as balanced and sessionable, meaning “You can have a few in your beer session without getting in trouble,” he said.

This will be the third pale ale for Skylark, which already serves Daisy Cutter Pale Ale on draft and Finch Cutthroat Pale Ale by the can.

McHale said he’s confident that Mirror Pond will grow on the locals.

“They know what pale ale means, and they’ll take our word for it,” he said.
