LINCOLN SQUARE — Pranksters have occasionally turned the water of Giddings Fountain into a soapy foam, but filming for a new commercial featured an altogether different kind of suds.

Beer.

In late September 2012, a film crew took over Lincoln Square's Giddings Plaza, 4733 N. Lincoln Ave., during a two-day overnight commercial shoot for Portland, Ore., brewery Henry Weinhard's. The results are now available online and depict a beer lover's nirvana: ale erupting from the fountain.

The scene recreates the most famous Weinhard's stunt that never was.

As legend has it, in 1887 Henry Weinhard, who founded his eponymous brewery in 1862, offered to pump beer through a newly-unveiled Portland fountain. Officials declined.

Lincoln Square proved more obliging, if only via the magic of advertising, and Weinhard finally got his wish.
