CHICAGO — A group of young, armed women has been choking and robbing cab drivers, according to a business alert issued by police Wednesday.

Six to seven women, ages 16 to 20, robbed cab drivers in at least two incidents in January, police said.

The women took cab rides from downtown to Grand Boulevard and robbed the driver upon arriving at their destination, police said.

Announcing the robbery, a woman armed with a knife choked the driver with a “rope-type cord,” police said.

The armed robberies took place in the 4600 block of South King Drive and the 4800 block of South Forrestville Avenue, according to the alert.
