CHICAGO — Police are calling two men heroes for their role in capturing a convicted felon who tried to rob a woman in Lincoln Park Friday night.

The 29-year-old woman was walking eastbound on the 800 block of West Diversey Parkway around 11:45 Friday night when Jose Rodriguez, 30, allegedly grabbed her from behind, putting his arm around her neck and holding a screwdriver to against her torso, police said in a news release. He demanded money, police said, and fled with her purse.

Two men, aged 20 and 24, witnessed the attack, and gave chase, tackling Rodriguez and holding him on the ground until police arrived and took him into custody. Police found a screwdriver next to Rodriguez, who was charged with armed robbery with a dangerous weapon, as well as violating his parole.

Rodriguez was expected in court Sunday.
