'Largest House in the Neighborhood' Lowers Ask from $8 Million

RIVER NORTH — If you've been pinching pennies saving up for a single-family home by the river, this isn't it.

The price may have been dropped by half a million dollars on the house at 460 W. Hubbard St., but that doesn't make it much more affordable for most of Chicago's house hunters.

"It's an enormous house," listing agent Ginger Menne, of Baird & Warner, said, calling it the largest home in River North. "It's not like all those other single-family homes over there. This is the only one built on two lots."

It's also likely the only house to boast six fireplaces, two resistance pools, three kitchens, an elevator, an in-house movie theater and 4,500 square feet of rooftop deck space.

The property spans across 460 and 464 W. Hubbard St., and was custom-designed for its original owner in 2005. After acquiring the adjacent lot, the same architect returned to connect another wing to the home, which has been on the market since last March.

It takes 45 minutes just to walk through the whole building, Menne said.

The current $7,375,000 price tag rules out all but the biggest-spenders, but the realtor said the amenities and big back yard make the house better suited for families than celebs or wealthy bachelors.
