90-Year-Old Woman's Death Ruled a Homicide by Neglect

CHICAGO — The death of an 90-year-old woman in Englewood was ruled a homicide by neglect, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

But police say they are a death investigation is underway and have not classifed Della Cotton's death as a homicide.

Cotton was found decomposed in her home in the 400 block of West Marquette Road and pronounced at the Cook County medical examiner’s office about 2:30 a.m. Friday, according to the office.

Her causes of death were cardiovascular disease and elder neglect, according to the medical examiner’s office.
