CHICAGO — A body was pulled from the Chicago River near Bridgeport Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Officers found a male body in the river's South Branch about 3:54 p.m. in the 2500 block of South Corbett Street, authorities said. The body was removed from the water by the Chicago Police Department's marine unit and taken to the Cook County's medical examiner's office, police said.

The man's age and cause of death was unknown, and police said an autopsy is scheduled for Thursday.
