MANHATTAN — Duane Reade will sell much more than cough medicine at its new Wall Street store, according to a company statement released Tuesday.
The new 22,000-square-foot flagship location, to open Wednesday at 40 Wall Street, will include a hair salon and a sushi bar among its many offerings, the statement said.
Other attractions include a Starbucks bakery, a smoothie bar and a Coca Cola "Freestyle" machine dispensing 130 types of soda.
The new location, which will remain open 24 hours, is part of Duane Reade’s ongoing effort to appeal to an "up market" clientele, the statement noted.
An Upper West Side store, on Broadway and West 72nd Street, began selling refillable beer growlers earlier this year.
Duane Reade, which first opened in TriBeCa in 1960, was purchased by Walgreens last February. It is now the largest drug store chain in the city, with more than 250 stores throughout the metro area, according to Tuesday's statement.
