MANHATTAN — The Coen Brothers filmmaking duo will base their next flick on the life of Greenwich Village folk icon Dave Van Ronk, a source told the LA Times.

Van Ronk, whose life was chronicled in the posthumous 2005 memoir, "The Mayor of McDougal Street," is best known for his role as mentor to folk legends like Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell and Phil Ochs during their years in Greenwich Village.

Dylan is rumored to have spent much of his first year in New York sleeping on Van Ronk's couch, according to a post by "Mayor of McDougal Street" co-author Elijah Wald.

Van Ronk's Sheridan Square block was renamed "Dave Van Ronk Street" after the jazz musician's 2002 death, Wald also noted.

While the LA Times source did not offer any details about who might play Van Ronk in the film, the burly bearded guitarist bears a notable resemblance to Coen Brother favorite Jeff Bridges.
