MANHATTAN — As if Mario Batali's Italian emporium in the Flatiron District wasn't already a foodie destination, Eataly's hotly-anticipated rooftop restaurant is set to open next month, a spokeswoman confirmed.

La Birreria, which will stay open year-round thanks to a retractable roof, boasts 4,500 square feet of rooftop space and spectacular views of the Empire State Building. Its opening date has been pushed back a few times since it was initially scheduled to open last fall.

The space also includes a copper clad brewing system modeled on an artisanal old world Italian craft brewery.

Sam Calagione of Delaware's Dogfish Head Craft Brewery will collaborate with two Italian brewmasters, Teo Musso, of Birrificio Le Baladin, and Leonardo Di Vincenzo of Birra del Borgo, to make Eataly's signature craft beer line, according to Dogfish beer.

Using Italian and American ingredients, they will be "brewing unfiltered, unpasteurized and naturally carbonated Cask Ales just 30 feet from where you’ll sit, eat and drink," Eataly's website said.

"Each will be served through traditional hand pumps, at the perfect temperature, so you can enjoy our beers in the most natural and traditional way.
