EAST VILLAGE — A masked gunman pistol-whipped a delivery man at a housing complex Friday afternoon, stealing his money and the meal, police said.
The gun-toting assailant struck the delivery man in the head with his weapon at 641 E. 13th St. in the Campos Plaza complex and then fled the scene around 3:45 p.m., NYPD source said.
The brazen midday robbery occurred right next to a children’s playground in the complex between Avenue B and C.
The restaurant worker was bleeding from the head after the attack and was transported to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition, police said.
“People don’t care no more,” said Demetrices Hallet, 47, who’s lived in the complex for the last 10 years, as children played on a jungle gym next to him.
“You can’t even sit outside on the damn bench. … It’s going to be a rough summer.”
The gunman had not yet been apprehended about three hours after the attack, police added.
