MANHATTAN — Three men had to be rescued early Sunday morning after they jumped into the Harlem River.
The men, who were unharmed, told police that they had gone in after a woman they saw fall into the water.
But police said no sign of anyone else in the water was ever found. The men were rescued near the 145th Street Bridge in Harlem.
A group of roughly 100 people were partying near the river before the incident, 1010WINS reported.
The superintendent of a nearby apartment building told the radio station that he is always putting up a chain to close off a broken piece of fence near where the men went into the river. But teenagers use bolt cutters to get nearer to the river, he told 1010WINS.
The men were not charged with any crimes, police said.
1010WINS reported that the Coast Guard assisted in the search for the woman.
