MANHATTAN — An Ohio ophthalmologist is suing his former fiancée in a lower Manhattan court for refusing to return his $58,000 engagement ring after her professed love appeared to be a sham, the New York Post reported.

"It was more finance than romance," scorned lover Roger Adler told the Post.

Adler said Rena Hope Friedman pressured him into getting engaged after only six weeks of dating. Then she flipped the switch.

Adler claims Friedman also wanted the ring appraiser to put the valuable jewel in her name. He said she lied about her age — saying she was 30 when she was actually 41, the Post said.

The bride-to-be also reportedly demanded a new BMW and first-class tickets to Australia.

Adler called off the engagement on Oct. 29 shortly after Friedman allegedly told him not to invite his elderly parents to the wedding, the paper reported.

When their engagement ended after less than two weeks, Friedman allegedly refused to return the 4-carat diamond ring. Adler said he is suing Friedman for fraud.

Adler's attorney claimed that an engagement ring belongs to the person that bought it until the marriage is performed.

The two were introduced by their parents at a Hamptons Labor Day party, the Post reported.
