UPPER WEST SIDE — Parents rejoice! Your kids now have something new to occupy their attention after the American Museum of Natural History launched a dinosaur app for your iPhone.

"Dinosaurs," available free on iTunes, allows users to browse 800 images of fossil archives from the Upper West Side museum. Paleontologists of any age can also bring the images together as an interactive mosaic.

The beloved Tyrannosaurus Rex and the Barosaurus, stars of the museum's famous dinosaur hall, all get a showing.

The Dinosaurs app also gives users a behind-the-science look at fossils, the stories of their discovery and profiles of the fossil-hunters who found them.

Propelling the ancient world further into the future, the app allows users to share favorite dinosaur and fossil images with friends, post comments, and view comments left by others.

The museum is planning on launching several other apps going forward, and is asking to the public for suggestions.
