COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — People in Calumet Heights may now have to go somewhere else to find bootlegged DVDs.
Arthur Roy, 47, of the 8800 block of South Constance Avenue, was held on $60,000 bond Wednesday after police allegedly found about 10,000 bootlegged DVDs at his home.
Roy, 47, was formally charged with unlawful use of recorded sound and possession of cannabis.
Police found the bootlegged DVDs, along with "three towers" containing DVD burners, a DVD player and a laptop at his home, Assistant State's Attorney Lorraine Scaduto said during bond court Wednesday.
Police found the DVDs and equipment through a search warrant, Scaduto said.
The DVDs were found wrapped in plain cases with newly-released titles written on them. The DVDs included "Snitch," "Django Unchained," "A Good Day to Die Hard," and "Identity Theft," among others, according to court documents.
Those movies are still shown in theaters and cannot be bought on DVD yet, court records stated.
Roy has 13 prior felony convictions but none have stemmed from bootlegging DVDs, court officials said.
The complaint against Roy was made by a representative from the Motion Picture Association of America, according to court documents.
Cook County Judge Laura Sullivan ordered Roy held on $60,000 bond.
